“Every 23rd Spring, for 23 days, it gets to eat.”
That is the eerie beginning of the second installment of “Jeepers Creepers.”
Audiences expected Jeepers Creepers 2 ,a movie written and directed by Victor Salva, to be much less of a scare than it actually was.
Bringing in $18.5 million during Labor Day weekend, the movie has already frightened tons of viewers.
The original “Jeepers Creepers” movie was not so scary, making some movie goers skeptical of spending $6.50 to see the sequel. But “Jeepers Creepers 2” has proven much creepier taking in $3 million more than the original did during Labor Day weekend 2001.
The Creeper, a greenish creature who enjoys 23 days feasting upon innocent men, women and children, proves to be a source of nightmares for almost everyone who sees him. Like “Jeepers Creepers,” the creature in “Jeepers Creepers 2” swoops down from the sky to kidnap his prey before eating whatever body part he desires.
The movie takes place in a country town where a school bus full of varsity basketball players, coaches, and cheerleaders are on their way home from a championship game. They are enjoying their ride home, cheering about how they won the game, when their bus tire blows out.
Eventually they realize the blowout was no accident. The Creeper has made sure they cannot make it home tonight.
Jeepers Creepers 2 is not a cinematic masterpiece, but is enjoyable anyway. The movie is very scary in the theater but it does not provoke sleepless nights. The creature looks realistic, on the other hand the plot of the movie is not.
The movie has an exciting soundtrack written by Bennet Salvay. The music definitely increases the tension of the screenplay.
Jeepers Creepers 2 has an effective screenplay and an excellent soundtrack, but it may not prove to be the creepiest movie of the season.
