LSUPD arrested several individuals during the past three weeks on unrelated charges.
Lt. Sherman Dickerson of LSUPD said officers arrested Cheryl Guillory, 36, of 301 Hermitage Ave., Lafayette, La., July 19 on hit and run charges after an incident in the Union parking lot.
Dickerson said a victim told LSUPD that her vehicle had been hit on the rear side fender in the parking lot. An individual left the victim a note giving a description of the vehicle and the license plate number.
After officers identified Guillory as the owner of the vehicle involved, she admitted to being in the area at the time of the alleged incident and was issued a misdemeanor summons for hit and run.
Officers also arrested two juveniles July 19 in connection with an alleged incident at Tiger Stadium.
Dickerson said witnesses told officers they heard glass breaking and a fountain machine being used in the west side concession stand area.
When officers arrived, they noticed broken lightbulbs and several vending machine items on the floor of the concession area.
Officers detained two juveniles near the stadium and brought them to LSUPD, where they were charged with theft and simple criminal damage to property.
The juveniles were released into the custody of their parents.
On July 20, officers arrested Maurice Oby, 29, no address available, with improper lane usage, suspended/revoked driver’s license and first-offense DWI.
Dickerson said officers saw a vehicle near the intersection of Highland Road and Dalrymple Drive weaving and crossing the center line.
After stopping the vehicle, officers noticed the driver having difficulty keeping his balance and observed a strong smell of alcohol on his breath.
Oby allegedly performed poorly on a field sobriety test and was later determined to be intoxicated.
He was booked in the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on the above charges.
Dickerson said officers arrested Oliver Celestine, 37, of 8220 Governor St., Apt. A, Baton Rouge, on charges of speeding, flight from an officer, reckless operation, no driver’s license and simple escape on July 24.
Dickerson said officers saw a vehicle speeding on Nicholson Drive. Though police attemptedto stop the vehicle, the vehicle refused to stop and continued northbound on Nicholson Drive.
Celestine allegedly tried to elude officers by speeding through a nearby neighborhood and pulling into a driveway. After officers informed Celestine he was under arrest, he allegedly fled the scene and escaped.
LSUPD officers then obtained a warrant for Celestine’s arrest. He was arrested at his home and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
Dickerson said officers arrested James Barber, 21, July 25 on charges of speeding and first-offense DWI.
Dickerson said officers saw a vehicle speeding on Highland Road near South Stadium Drive. After stopping the vehicle, officers allegedly noticed the smell of alcohol on Barber’s breath.
Barber, of 5101 Nicholson Drive, Baton Rouge, performed poorly on a field sobriety test and was later placed under arrest for speeding and DWI. He was booked in the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
Officers also arrested Nicholas Cagley, 23, on charges of speeding and first offense DWI.
Dickerson said officers saw a vehicle speeding on Highland Road. After stopping the vehicle, officers noticed open alcoholic containers on the passenger side of the vehicle.
Cagley, of 17935 Five Oaks Drive, Baton Rouge, performed poorly on a field sobriety test and later refused a chemical intoxication test at LSUPD. He was booked in the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
Dickerson said officers arrested University student Jordan Gillette, of 4622 Earl Gros St., Baton Rouge, July 28 on charges of speeding and DWI.
Dickerson said officers saw a vehicle speeding on Highland Road near South Campus Drive. After stopping the vehicle, officers smelled alcohol on Gillette’s breath.
After being given a field sobriety test, officers determined that Gillette, 22, was possibly intoxicated. She was determined to be intoxicated after a test at LSUPD.
Gillette was booked in the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
On August 8, Dickerson said officers arrested Raymond Jackson, 18, of 311 Village St., Port Allen, La. on charges of simple burglary of a motor vehicle after an incident at the Ed Gay Apartments.
Officers also arrested Derrence White, 19, of 931 Eleanor St., Apt. B, Port Allen, La. on a Baton Rouge Police warrant for aggravated assault and aggravated burglary in the same incident.
Dickerson said the victim allegedly saw Jackson and White trying to steal a stereo from his vehicle. The individuals fled, but officers stopped them at the Exxon station on Highland Road.
The victim positively identified the individuals and both were booked in the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
