LSUPD is continuing investigations into two weekend armed robberies.
The incidents occurred separately Saturday, but LSUPD is seeking the same robber in both cases. The department sent a broadcast e-mail Monday with a link to a composite sketch of the robber and a link to safety tips.
Victims and a witness to one of the robberies gave similar descriptions of the robber — a dark-complected male with a thin build.
LSUPD Maj. Ricky Adams said witnesses also reported seeing a “metallic-colored” vehicle leaving both of the areas where the crimes occurred. Adams said the vehicle could be a white, silver or grey Dodge Intrepid.
LSUPD dispatched an officer for the first incident at 12:53 a.m. to the Pentagon Courtyard. Victims said in a police report that they were approached by a robber between Taylor and Beauregard halls.
The three victims — all University students — did not know the robber, who showed them a silver revolver and demanded their personal items.
All of the victims complied with the suspect’s demands, and no one was physically harmed.
Another officer was dispatched for the second reported incident at 11:15 p.m. to the patio overlooking Campus Lake, across West Lakeshore Drive from Lod Cook Alumni Center.
These two victims were parents of a University student. They said in the police report that two black males approached them, but only one spoke to and robbed them.
The police report stated that the victims described the robber who spoke as physically similar to the suspect in the previous case. The robber also was armed with a silver revolver and demanded the victims give him their money.
Both victims complied with the suspect’s demands, and neither were physically harmed.
Adams said LSUPD is “appealing to the community” to come forward with any information about the armed robberies. He also said members of the campus community should be cautious about their safety.
One of the victims of the second incident, who will remain anonymous because a suspect has not been apprehended, contacted The Reveille about safety concerns. The victim said there should be more publicity about the crimes so that students will be safer.
“We want it to be known because students need to be aware if something happens on campus,” the victim said. “There was nothing in [The Advocate] about the robbery the night before.”
The Reveille does not print on Saturday and Sunday, and the early-morning occurrence of the first reported armed robbery could have prevented its inclusion in Saturday’s Advocate.
Caution would have been more of a priority if safety concerns had been known, the victim said. The victim also suggested more patrols in the areas where the robberies occurred.
“I think if whoever robbed us knew [the area where they were robbed] was a hot spot for security, they would not have hit us,” the victim said.
