Sophomore Stephanie Hill blasted two home runs as No. 5 LSU crushed the Lady Colonels of Nicholls State 20-0 at Tiger Park.
With the win, LSU (33-7) run-ruled the Lady Colonels, just the second time Nicholls State has been run-ruled this season.
Freshman Emily Turner earned the win, improving her record to 13-3 on the year.
Nicholls State fell to 15-19 with the loss.
Turner said she was pleased with the way the team performed against the Lady Colonels.
“I was really proud of the offense,” Turner said. “You’ve got to really hand it to them. They did a commendable job tonight.”
With the loss, Nicholls State pitcher Nichole Wagner fell to 4-10 on the year.
LSU got the lead first, scoring five runs in the third inning.
With senior Sara Fitzgerald on first base, right fielder Camille Harris singled up the middle, putting runners on first and second. Senior LaDonia Hughes advanced the runners with a ground out to third, sending Fitzgerald to third and Harris to second. Freshman Leslie Klein then walked, loading the bases.
Lauren Dalahoussaye then singled up the middle, scoring Fitzgerald and Harris.
Hill, who went 3-for-4 with seven RBIs in the game, then hit her team-leading 11th home run of the year, breaking the game open at 5-0.
Hill said she just wanted to contribute in scoring runs for the team.
“I just wanted to come out and put runs on the board and help this team win,” Hill said. “[Dione Meier] had our number last night, and today we wanted to make sure we answered her.
Meier gave up just three runs on four hits on Wednesday night in the loss against LSU.
LSU then exploded with 14 runs in the fourth inning, knocking the Lady Colonels out of the game.
Freshman Kristin Hobbs began the onslaught, doubling to left center to start the inning. Following a single by Fitzgerald and a walk by Harris, Hughes knocked in two runs with a single up the middle.
Louisiana-Lafayette transfer Lauren Castle then singled to right field, scoring Hughes and Harris. Klein walked on the next at bat, advancing to second on a Delahoussaye ground out. Hill then singled up the middle, scoring Castle and Klein and giving LSU a commanding 11-0 lead.
Hill put the finishing touches on the game with a two-run home run, giving LSU a 20-0 lead.
Coach Yvette Girouard said she was happy with the offensive power the team displayed.
“We came out and really ripped the ball,” Girouard said. “What I liked the most was when they brought Meier in late in the game, we hit the ball well off her. She is a very good pitcher.”
