The LSU women’s golf team has earned a bid to the NCAA Tournament in the East Regional as the No. 9 seed, to be held at the Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort at Howley-in-the-Hills, Fla., May 6-8.
This is the 10th time LSU has made the tournament since the current format was adopted 12 years ago. LSU missed the cut in 1994 and 2003.
Two other in-state schools qualified for the East Regional — Southern and Tulane.
Other Southeastern Conference teams in the East include: Auburn (2nd seed), Florida (6), Tennessee (10), South Carolina (12), Ole Miss (14) and Alabama (16).
LSU will bring a young lineup into the regional with junior Brooke Shelton, sophomore Vicky Meyer, and freshmen Alexis Rather and Melissa and Nicola Eaton seeing action for the Lady Tigers.
LSU coach Karen Bahnsen said the team is ready to go.
“We are very excited about being back in the NCAA regional championships,” Bahnsen said. “This will be a challenge for our young team. But, they proved in the SECs they are up for it. We like going to Florida for the tournament and feel we will have a good shot if things fall into place for us. The team has been practicing hard for this event and really looks forward to the challenge.”
The top eight teams from each regional will qualify for the NCAA Divsion I championship finals at the Grand National Lake Course in Opelika, Ala., May 18-21.
The West regional will be held in Stanford, Calif., at the Stanford Golf Course, while the Central regional will be held in Normal, Ill. at the University Golf Course.
