Police taking up space in CEBA lot
This is my fifth year at LSU, and by now I’ve come to expect parts of the CEBA lot to be occasionally devoted to special event parking. Last week there was a livestock show which took over a large portion of parking near the North Gate, but no real dilemnas seemed to arise from it.
However, I’m 100% certain that more than 200 students were late to their classes Tuesday morning because a few policemen had roped off a giant portion of the CEBA lot — not because of a crime scene investigation or to allow space for construction — but to ride their motorcycles in a circle!
I watched them for a good two minutes this morning while waiting in a line of cars on the way out of the CEBA lot, and that’s all the cops were doing. Riding bikes in a circle.
The worst part of all this is the complete lack of a warning e-mail that the university should have sent a week in advance so students would know to prepare for parking elsewhere. What’s the excuse this time?

Marriage not solely about child-raising
I am writing in response to Paul Catalanotto’s letter on Tuesday Feb. 3.
While marriage is not only about companionship and sexual
gratification, it is also not solely concerned with the rearing of
children.
It is a sacred institution and a true declaration of love between two people. Marriage is about family and trust and someone to share your life with. It not only allows others to recognize your choice, but it creates a unique bond between two people by legally and emotionally unifying the couple.
Every person has the right to love and happiness regardless of their sexual orientation. Many same-sex families do wish to raise children and create a family. No one should be denied that right, regardless of their sexual orientation.
