Philadelphia Eagles quarterback coach Doug Nussmeier sat down with LSU Tiger TV ahead of Super Bowl LIX.
Nussmeier is the father of LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier and spoke about how important returning to Louisiana on one of the biggest stages in sports is to him.
“It’s special… to have the opportunity to come to New Orleans in the Superdome to play for a world championship, it's truly special,” Nussmeier said.
When asked about Garrett’s relationship with the Eagles and how he interacts with players, his father said those interactions don't get to happen as much as the father-son duo would like.
“He doesnt get to as much as he would like, their [LSU Football’s] schedule is so demanding. He is there with his team, it’s important,”
“We would love to have him around more but I’m in Philadelphia and he is in Baton Rouge. He needs to do what is best for LSU football,” Nussmeier said.
When asked about his feelings on his son taking a 5th year, the NFL coach spoke about his excitement for Garrett to return to the Purple and Gold one last time.
“I’m excited for their team. In the world of college football today there's a lot of change… you gotta remake your team every year. I’m really excited about their opportunity and looking forward to watching the Tigers this fall,” Nussmeier said.
The Philadelphia Eagles will face off against the Kansas City Chiefs at Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans at 5:30 pm CST on FOX.
