The Foret-Tatman: Forward campaign for Student Government was officially disqualified by the SG Judicial Branch Wednesday evening and has vowed to appeal the decision to the dean of students.
“Petitioners will never stop advocating for the Constitutional rights of themselves, their voters, and all students of Louisiana State University,” the campaign said in its notice that it intends to appeal.
The decision came as the University Court declined to overturn an Election Court ruling finding the campaign in violation of campaign spending rules. It was alleged that Foret-Tatman: Forward had listed several items including jambalaya, gasoline and custom buttons at $0, when SG Code requires they be reported at market value.
This marks the second time the campaign has been disqualified by the Judicial Branch, the first happening over allegations of bribery. That disqualification was overturned by Dean of Students Fran’Cee Brown-McClure, who faulted the judicial process and evidence of “dubious value.”
The results of the SG election, held on March 20 and 21, have been delayed indefinitely because of the ongoing court cases.
“If elected to serve, Alex Foret and Isabelle Tatman intend to fight for the rights of all students, Constitutionally and otherwise granted, with as much intensity, drive, and strength as this Court and the Student Government Judicial System used against Petitioners’ rights of substance and process,” the campaign said in its appeal notice.
