Former LSU wide receiver Kyren Lacy was found dead outside of Houston, Texas early Sunday morning, a spokesperson from the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable’s Office confirmed.
The news comes just 11 days before the 2025 NFL Draft in Green Bay, which Lacy had his eyes set on.
On March 26, the Thibodaux native participated in LSU’ s Pro Day where he ran a 4.50 40-yard dash and put up a 33.5 inch vertical.
Members of the Thibodaux community including Brie Andras, a former friend and classmate of Lacy, are remembering him as more than just an athlete – but as a light in the community who aspired to make it big.
“He was just the class clown in the best way,” Andras said of her highschool friend.
“He was funny and ready to have a good time and would walk through the halls cracking jokes,”.
Lacy was due in court Monday for a grand jury hearing regarding charges of negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run and reckless operation of a vehicle after a fatal collision in LaFourche Parish.
The crash occurred in December of 2024, just two days after Lacy declared for the 2025 NFL Draft.
Lacy’s lawyer issued an official statement Sunday saying in part, “Kyren was a young man with immense promise, and he was crushed under the weight of an irresponsible and prejudiced process,”.
“There was never a presumption of innocence which was exemplified by the NFL pulling his draft card over mere accusations without affording him the slightest chance to defend himself. The pressure and perception likely became unbearable,”.
Lacy’s lawyers maintain that they will be conducting their own review of the investigation of the crash.
A statement from LSU says, “We’re saddened to learn of the tragic passing of former LSU Football student-athlete Kyren Lacy. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones, as well as his former teammates and coaches impacted by his passing,”.
Andreas says that despite the tragic situation the community of Thibodaux will always rally around Lacy, and will find the light in this dark situation.
“I know that as heartbroken as Thibodaux is, they’re resilient. They are going to turn this into something positive,” Andras said of her hometown.
The Lacy family is asking for privacy and respect as they navigate this season of grief.
