The No. 7 LSU Tigers were able to pull away from the No. 15 Alabama Crimson Tide on Thursday after a win in Alex Box stadium looked out of reach.
Alabama outfielder Kade Snell put on a show for the Crimson Tide, being responsible for their dominance and lead over the Tigers early on.
“And then Snell,” Head Coach Jay Johnson said. “Holy cow, what a night that guy had.”
The Tigers needed a hit to keep them in the ball game, and center fielder Chris Stanfield was the first to get the Tigers on the board.
Starting pitcher Kade Anderson was able to secure 10 strikeouts before his time on the mound was up, but it was a standout performance by Casan Evans and a home run by Ashton Larson on his first trip to the plate that got the Purple and Gold Faithful on their feet.
“The coaches all in the dugout do a great job of making sure that I’m ready for a situation or spot that could be coming up soon,” Larson said. “Then when it happens, it’s as fluid as possible.”
Coming off of a sweep in their series against the Auburn Tigers, LSU proved what is possible when you stay ready for the unexpected.
“We rallied back, and it was kind of a fire drill,” Evans said. “But I mean I got warm and ready to go.”
The preparation from both Larsen and Evans protected home field and gave the Tigers a comeback win to be proud of.
LSU will face Alabama in the second game of the series Friday at 6 p.m. back in Alex Box stadium.
