The 10th overall National seed LSU Softball (42-15) beat UConn (35-19), 3-0, in their second game of the Baton Rouge Regional, as Beth Torina and the Tigers look to navigate their way through the loser’s bracket.
LSU got on the board early, scoring their first run in the first inning after First Baseman Tori Edwards drew a bases-loaded walk to score Danieca Coffey, and adding on two more runs in the second inning with a Maci Bergeron bases-loaded walk and a RBI sacrifice fly from Edwards.
The Tigers dominated on defense throughout the entirety of the game. A large part can be attributed to LSU junior pitcher Sydney Berzon, who contained the Huskies to five hits and zero runs, racking up five strikeouts in a complete game performance.
LSU now faces another challenge in Southeastern Louisiana, who upset the Tigers 4-3 on Friday night behind a strong performance in the circle from Lainee Bailey.
The winner between SLU and LSU will go on to face Nebraska, having to beat the Huskers twice if they want to reach a Super Regional.
First pitch between the Lions and the Tigers is scheduled for 6 p.m. central, with both teams looking to survive and advance.
