LSU Baseball First Baseman Jared Jones, Right-Handed Pitcher Zac Cowan and Catcher Luis Hernandez spoke with the media following the Tigers miraculous comeback win over Arkansas to advance to the College World Series Final.
Zac Cowan would deliver a strong start for the Tigers, throwing 5.1 innings of one-run ball to keep the Tigers within striking distance.
“I think it’s mainly sticking with the same mindset and trusting Coach Yeskie,” Cowan said of his start. “Defense made great plays behind me tonight. It was in the same case earlier in the year against Arkansas.”
The LSU offense would pick up the LSU pitching later on in the game, specifically Jared Jones, who delivered a home run to tie the game at three, as well as the walk-off single to win the game 6-5 for LSU.
“I thought he had caught it honestly because it fell in behind him,” Jones said of his walkoff hit, which came off the glove of Arkansas Second Baseman Cam Kozeal. “But once I saw the ball hit the grass, I just blacked out in the moment, just celebrating with my teammates. Super grateful.”
Jones’s base hit would score a hustling Luis Hernandez from second, who delivered a two-out, two-RBI double to tie the game up at five.
“I think it was a change-up. And whenever he didn’t grab it, I started running,” Hernandez said.
LSU now gears up for a championship series against COastal Carolina, who broke LSU’s hearts in 2016 on their way to their only National Championship in history.
The Tigers and Chanticleers will start their series Saturday night at 6 p.m. on ESPN.
