LSU Baseball will face Coastal Carolina in a historic match up on Saturday. Before the game, LSU Head Coach Jay Johnson met with the media at Charles Schwab Field.
LSU has had their fair share of trials this season. They have played every kind of game, and all of those moments Johnson believes got them to where they are today.
“I think if you’re at this point in the NCAA-tournament, you’ve been battle-tested,” Johnson said.
Despite the teams being from different conferences, the structure and mentality of the teams are actually very similar. Both prioritize selflessness. Johnson has the motto “team over me,” and Kevin Schnall says “relentlessness and selflessness.”
“When I look at their team, I see a lot of our team.”
“…it’s about pitchers throwing strikes, your defense handling the ball, your offense stringing quality at-bats together,” Johnson said.
Much of America does not want LSU to win another National Championship, but it does not take the spotlight off of how excellent and consistent the baseball program is. Johnson enjoys the challenge and strives to push the players and staff to be their best.
“And that is what I will say about LSU is there’s not another baseball program in the entire country where more people care about what you’re doing,” Johnson said.
The preparations are in order, all that’s left is for the games to start. First pitch on Saturday is at 7:00 P.M. EDT.
