LSU baseball sophomore outfielder Ashton Larson is entering his name into the transfer portal, according to multiple reports.
Larson had a limited role for the Tigers this season after appearing in 53 games as a freshman where he recorded a .298 batting average with three home runs and 16 RBI.
In his sophomore season he had high expectations, but the LSU outfield group was deep in 2025 with freshman Derek Curiel coming in and sophomore Jake Brown and junior Ethan Frey breaking out. Senior Josh Pearson was also a factor in his fourth season at LSU, and junior Chris Stanfield transferred from Auburn over the summer.
In 2025, Curiel, Stanfield and Brown got the starting roles for the most part, and Frey was hitting in the designated hitter spot where he had one of the best individual seasons at the plate. Larson appeared in 34 games, mainly as a pinch hitter, where he recorded two home runs and 12 RBI.
Larson’s departure from LSU doesn’t come as a surprise to many because of the large returning cast in the outfield. LSU will potentially retain their three starters in Curiel, Brown and Stanfield, although Stanfield is draft eligible in 2025.
Larson is LSU’s ninth departure in the transfer portal in 2025, but with the No. 1 recruiting class and a growing incoming transfer portal class, the Tigers will likely fill those vacant roster spots.
