The proposed new LSU arena that would replace the PMAC in housing the university’s basketball teams could be named after local hospital Our Lady of the Lake, according to a report Friday.
Through a public records request, The Baton Rouge Advocate obtained a mock-up from the university of the arena bearing the name “Our Lady of the Lake Arena.”
Spokespeople for both OLOL and LSU Athletics told The Advocate that no terms had been reached on the naming rights.
“We have been in discussions as a potential anchor investor for this project,” OLOL spokesperson Alexandra Stubbs told The Advocate. “We are always looking for ways to invest into our community in meaningful ways that will help stimulate economic growth and ultimately create healthier, more vibrant communities.”
OLOL is LSU’s Championship Health Partner, which in part means it works directly with LSU Athletics to provide treatment to its athletes.
It was a partnership announced in 2022 that also came with a $170 million commitment from OLOL, the largest gift in university history at the time.
OLOL also staffs the university’s Student Health Center.
The renderings were dated April 2025 and created by Populous, an architecture firm that reportedly has been chosen to plan the arena.
The arena’s developer is still unknown, especially as finalist Oak View Group was federally indicted Wednesday for rigging a past arena bidding process leading up to the construction of University of Texas-Austin’s Moody Center.
Oak View Group asked another competitor for the development contract not to bid in exchange for subcontract. The company and CEO Brian Leiweke have agreed to pay $15 million in penalties.
