LSU Football faced off against the LA Tech Bulldogs on a Saturday Night in Death Valley for their home opener.
The game started off rough for the offense with Quarterback Garret Nussmeier threw an interception on the opening drive, his first of the season.
Head Coach Brian Kelly said it was “A lack of execution by coaches and players alike.” That made it difficult for the offense to gain yardage. The offense struggled to put points on the board in order to put some distance between the two teams.
LA Tech’s defense was able to apply that same pressure week 1 which left their opponent scoreless. This week the Bulldogs’ defense was able to apply that same pressure to LSU, only allowing them to put up only 9 points in the first half.
The Tigers starting center Braelin Moore suffered a lower body injury during the first play of the game, but later returned wearing an ankle boot. Tight end Trey’Dez Green also suffered an injury when a defensive lineman fell on his knee. Both are expected to make a full recovery.
Offensively, the Bulldogs struggled with getting into LSU’s territory. The LSU defense applied the same pressure they did in the previous week at Clemson, which made it hard for LA Tech to run the ball.
It would not be until late in the fourth quarter when LA Tech quarterback Blake Baker threw a 33 yard touchdown to finally put numbers on the board.
The Tigers successfully pulled off this Louisiana showdown victory making their record 2-0. Head Coach Brian Kelly stated, “Everybody collectively did not live up to the standard that we have set here,” and that the team has a lot of work to do before they face off against the Florida Gators in Death Valley.
