LSU football redshirt sophomore defensive tackle Sydir Mitchell is no longer with the team, according to a report from On3.
Mitchell has not registered a snap for LSU after he transferred in this past offseason from Texas. He was a four-star recruit in the class of 2023.
Mitchell was brought in to help LSU shore up its run defense after ranking 51st in yards allowed, 75th in yards per carry allowed and 105th in rushing touchdowns allowed per game in the 2024 season.
LSU also brought in four freshmen and one other transfer at the interior defensive line position with three starters from last season returning for this season.
A weak spot of this team last season, it’s now become one of the deepest and most talented positions on the team.
Through the two games this season, LSU ranks seventh in the nation in overall run defense, ninth in yards allowed per carry and eighth in yards allowed.
LSU starts SEC play this weekend with Florida traveling to Baton Rouge. The game kicks off at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday in Death Valley.
