Fall is now in full swing with the start of October, and though LSU students are still struggling with temperatures in the high 80’s, there is no reason not to get in the spirit of the season. A great way to do this is by browsing the new fall items at Trader Joe’s.
Amongst the pumpkin succulents and smell of cinnamon brooms, you can find a wide array of things to try. This can be a bit overwhelming, especially when the aisles are full of people left and right. Here is a narrowed down list of what to look out for to curate the perfect fall-themed day.
First off, any good day starts with a cup of coffee. Trader Joe’s Salted Maple Cold Foam Creamer is a delicious new addition to your morning routine. It’s perfectly light with a subtle salted maple flavor that makes you think of a stack of fluffy pancakes with butter.
You’re welcome to eat this foam by spraying it straight into your mouth, of course. However, you might get a more rounded experience putting it atop one of Trader Joe’s various cold brews (or any cold brew of your liking).
But wait, you woke up too late and do not have time to make breakfast. Might as well grab a fall-themed snack that is easy to carry around.
The Pumpkin & Spice Brioche Style Liège Waffles are an ideal option. The waffles are a simple and sweet on-the-go treat wrapped in individual plastic packaging. The flavor leaves a lot to be desired —maybe pumpkin spice is not built for this style of food. As far as flavor and price, you might be better off getting the regular Trader Joe’s waffles.
After a couple of classes, a quick snack should be in order. The Apple Pie Spread and Sliced Apple Cinnamon Sourdough Bread are great in their own right, but when they are put together, something even better is made.
First off, the Apple Pie Spread is exactly what it sounds like. The flavor of this spread is sure to give you that cozy apple pie feeling with its sweetness. Every pie needs its crust, which is where the apple cinnamon sourdough comes in. The bread is an excellent semi-savory and slightly sweet counter to the saccharine spread. The little bits of apple inside are a nice touch as well.
After a long day, you may want a full autumnal meal without the hassle of cooking. The Butternut Squash Risotto is an ideal item to fix your hunger without requiring too much effort. It is a bit on the saltier side, so maybe add some milk and black pepper when cooking. The rice is cooked very well and the butternut puree offers a satisfyingly smooth texture. Light up a pumpkin-scented candle and top the dish with some chili oil, and you have the perfect fall night.
These items are available at Trader Joe’s for a limited time, so be sure to head to 3535 Perkins Road in the next few months to satisfy your fall cravings.
