The days are slowly getting colder, pumpkin spice is back on shelves and the feeling of fall is arising everywhere. Autumn, with all its festivities and holidays, happens to be a great time for resting and learning something new.
Some of the best things about fall are the decor and the activities. Here are plenty of cute and fun fall crafts to do to get into the spirit of the best season of the year.
Fall Punch Card
There is a cute new little trend going around for those who truly love fall: a fall punch card. Create a wishlist of the things you want to do during the fall season and make a game out of it. Once you have your fall activities wishlist, take a notecard or cut a piece of construction paper. Write down little designs to symbolize each activity, and then color and decorate. Watercolors or colored pencils may be best. As you fulfill your fall wishes, you can hole punch or mark off each activity.
Embroidery
For a fun and relaxing way to spend a fall afternoon, grab your sewing kit and an embroidery hoop. Embroidery is an old talent that many people don’t use anymore, but it is much easier than you may think. All you need is a needle, thread, fabric and an embroidery hoop — all relatively cheap items you can get from Michaels or Hobby Lobby. Stitching fall leaves, ghosts, corn or animals can be simple or more complicated depending on the design you choose.
Garland
Decorating for the fall season and all the holidays in between can seem like a daunting task until you realize you can reuse basic items to bring life into any room. Using any kind of string, a thread and some paper or felt, you can make a cute fall garland in no time. You can cut paper into whatever shapes you wish, from ghosts to pumpkins to leaves, and then take a needle and thread and sew the shapes onto the string. Space them out, and once it’s the length and the look you’d like, you can tie off the string and create a garland. For an even cuter look, you can dry lemons, pinecones, oranges or apples by putting them in the oven on a low temperature for a couple of hours. They would look perfect alongside your fall-themed shapes.
Bookmarks
Reading books during fall can be incredibly relaxing and fun. Why not create your own bookmarks to make things a little bit more fun? Take printer or construction paper, and fold it horizontally four times. Use scissors to cut on the folded lines, and use one of the cut pieces as your base. To decorate the bookmark, you can use pens, paint or even leaves. If you do choose to use outside items, use tape or glue to hold everything down. To keep the bookmark preserved, cover the bookmark with clear packing tape or laminate it at Office Depot.
Patchwork Sweatshirt
Looking cozy and cute is always the way to go in the fall, and a way to step up your fashion game is by creating a patchwork sweatshirt. Take any old sweatshirt and lay it out flat. With leftover fabric from your other crafts, you can create designs like stars, pumpkins, leaves or hearts and lay them out over the sweatshirt. Once you have a design you like, use some sewing pins to hold everything in place. To bring everything together, you can use a sewing machine or hand sew the designs down.
Fall Leaf Crown
One of the cutest and most inexpensive ways to create something in fall weather is creating a leaf crown. Collect as many fallen leaves as possible, making sure they are dry with strong stems. Take some scissors and cut the tip of the stem. Take the leaf and bend 1/3 of it, stick the stem into the middle of the leaf and bring them together. The next leaf will go into the previous leaf and so on; continue to weave the leaves and the stems in between each other. When you feel the train of leaves is long enough, bend the last leaf into the first one, and wear your crown with pride.
Fairy Wings
This craft is a tad bit more whimsical than the rest. To start, you’ll need natural elements like leaves, flowers or acorns. After collecting your materials, place them on a piece of construction paper or cardboard. Cut the paper into the shape of wings and use your materials to create a design. Once you’re satisfied with your design, take some contact paper or packing tape to cover the design and to keep it on the wings. You can either use the wings as decoration or add elastic to wear them and become the perfect autumn fairy.
