LSU football senior cornerback Mansoor Delane was named one of three finalists for the Jim Thorpe Award, ESPN announced on Tuesday.
The Thorpe Award is an annual honor that is presented to the best defensive back in college football, based on on-field performance and character.
Delane is joined by Ohio State safety Caleb Downs and Notre Dame cornerback Leonard Moore.
In his first season with the Tigers after transferring from Virginia Tech, he recorded 12 passes defended, 10 pass breakups and two interceptions.
Delane has consistently been the best player on LSU’s defense, leading the team in passes defended and ranking No. 2 in the SEC.
He has allowed 13 receptions for 147 yards and no touchdowns this season, all while only giving up two receiving first downs and holding opponents to a 38.2 completion rate on passes thrown his way.
Delane and the LSU defense lead the SEC in passes defended, interceptions and pass breakups.
Delane joins four past LSU players who have been named finalists for the Thorpe Award, with three of them being winners — Grant Delpit in 2019, Morris Claiborne in 2011 and Patrick Peterson in 2010.
