LSU’s unranked football team is hitting the road for Norman, Oklahoma, for its final regular season game against No. 8 Oklahoma this weekend.
The Tigers have had their fair share of publicity this season, with the termination of former head coach Brian Kelly and offensive coordinator Joe Sloan, on top of falling short time and time again this season.
Despite that, interim head coach Frank Wilson is working hard to make sure his team can pack a punch against the Sooners’ talent-stacked roster. With that being said, here are four Oklahoma players to watch this weekend.
John Mateer
Leading the Sooners’ offense is redshirt junior quarterback John Mateer, who transferred to Oklahoma from Washington State University this year.
Acting as one of the strongest assets for Oklahoma’s passing game, Mateer has thrown 5,666 yards and recorded 42 touchdowns to only 15 interceptions across 684 passing attempts in his career.
2,260 of those yards and 10 of those touchdowns are attributed to his time as an Oklahoma Sooner.
When looking at his rushing skills, Mateer has racked up 1,366 yards and 25 touchdowns.
Fans saw his season high in scoring at the start of the season during Oklahoma’s 35-3 win over the Illinois State Redbirds, where he threw 392 yards and three touchdowns.
Xavier Robinson
Following Mateer on the offensive line is sophomore running back Xavier Robinson, a Yukon, Oklahoma, native competing in his second season for the Sooners.
Racking up 641 yards and eight touchdowns across 123 rushing attempts, Robinson serves as a valuable asset to Oklahoma’s offense.
In terms of receptions, Robinson has caught 14 receptions this season across 89 yards, securing one receiving touchdown.
Fans saw his season high in Oklahoma’s third conference matchup against the Ole Miss Rebels, where the team fell 34-36. Despite the loss, Robinson rushed two touchdowns and 109 yards for the Sooners.
Isaiah Sategna III
Closing the talent of the offensive side of the ball is redshirt junior Isaiah Sategna III, who’s made his mark with Oklahoma in receiving yards.
Sategna is yet another transfer student, however he isn’t new to the SEC, having previously played four seasons for the Arkansas Razorbacks.
As a Razorback, Sategna racked up 54 receptions, 632 yards and three receiving touchdowns.
Fans saw his season in scoring during Oklahoma’s dominant 44-0 win over Kent State, where he caught two touchdowns. As far as yardage goes, Sategna gained the most yards against his team’s 24-17 victory over Auburn, with 127 receiving yards to his name.
Kip Lewis
Leading Oklahoma’s defense is redshirt junior linebacker Kip Lewis.
Lewis is competing in his fourth season as a Sooner, having brought home a total of 199 tackles — 106 solos and 93 assists — and one sack.
The Carthage, Texas, linebacker has secured 68 tackles this year — 34 solos and 34 assists — and three sacks, marking a career high in total tackles this season.
Fans saw his season high in tackles against Auburn, where he racked up 10 tackles total — three solos and seven assists.
