LSU has finalized a deal to reunite with former N.C. State Men’s Basketball Head Coach, Will Wade.
This comes after rumors have circled for many weeks of there being a possible reunion between the two sides.
Wade spent five years at LSU from 2017-2022 and had great success in the purple and gold.
A tell-tale sign that Wade was returning to LSU was when the school hired Wade’s right hand man, Heath Schroyer. Prior to coming to LSU, Schroyer served as McNeese St.’s athletic director.
In his first stint in Baton Rouge, Wade boasted a record of 105-51 and had three NCAA Tournament appearances including a trip to the Sweet Sixteen.
Everything was smooth sailing for Wade at LSU until it all came crashing down when he was charged with illegal recruiting by the NCAA in 2022. This led to his eventual firing from LSU as the school wanted to protect its identity.
After this saga, Wade took the head coaching job at McNeese State and dominated the Southland Conference. In his two years at McNeese, Wade and the Cowboys won the conference both years en route to NCAA Tournament bids. In his second year in Lake Charles, Wade led McNeese to an upset victory against a No. 5 seed, Clemson.
With this success, Wade had many opportunities to get back to the limelight of college basketball. He settled at legendary basketball school, N.C. State, and had lofty expectations.
Unfortunately, Wade’s first and only season in Raleigh was rather underwhelming as they lost in the First Four of the NCAA tournament to the Texas Longhorns. After the loss, Wade was adamant that he is very happy at N.C. State and that his job was nowhere near finished.
“Listen, let me be very clear: I’m excited at N.C. State. I was hired at N.C. State to do a job.” said Wade when asked about
With Wade now officially in the building at LSU, Tiger fans can expect a renewed public interest around the men’s basketball team as Wade is a huge name in college basketball.
