LSU Men’s Basketball Head Coach Matt McMahon addressed the media Saturday night after falling short to the Georgia Bulldogs 83-71.
This makes the Tigers 2-8 in SEC gameplay which raises concerns as the SEC tournament is slowly approaching.
Head Coach Matt McMahon credited the team for their performance in the first half as he stated, “We were thrilled with the start of the game during the first 10 minutes. I thought we were really dialed in on both sides of the ball and executed at a high level. Our off-ball screening actions were really effective, and we were sharing the basketball,”
After opening the matchup with a 31-16 lead early on into the game, LSU was able to start off strong, giving Tiger fans a sample of the same skills that were successful against the South Carolina Gamecocks last week.
LSU held onto the lead for 18 minutes in the game, all in the first half while the Bulldogs led for just a short of 21 minutes.
But that was not enough to stop the Bulldogs from fast paced offense as they thrived on turnovers and fast breaks which LSU could not keep up with.
McMahon gave props to Georgia for the pressure applied by their defensive front that made it nearly impossible for the Tigers to put up shots.
“Credit to Georgia; they started switching a lot of screens and were really physical on their defensive side to get them out in transition.” Spoke McMahon.
In the second half, Georgia was able to hold LSU to 9-of-23 from the field and 0-of-7 from distance in the last 20 minutes of the game. Which does not come as a surprise as the Bulldogs average over 92 points a game.
Georgia Head Coach Mike White emphasized the importance of not underestimating LSU as he stated “As I mentioned earlier this week, LSU could’ve easily been sitting here with two or three more SEC wins. They’llcontinue to be super competitive.”
Tiger fans can catch LSU Men’s Basketball back in action as they return to the Pete Maravich Assembly Center Tuesday night to face the Arkansas Razorbacks at 8 p.m. CT on SEC Network.
