As Black History Month continues, one Louisiana business owner is showing what it truly means to build a legacy.
For many young people in the Baton Rouge community, empire wings has become more than just a place to grab food, it’s a staple. Whether it’s between classes or after a long day, customers say it’s the flavors that keep them coming back.
But Empire Wings didn’t begin as a traditional restaurant.
The owner says the idea started while he was promoting a local club called Empire. Looking for a way to increase drink sales, he decided to sell wings behind the club. What began as a simple add-on quickly became the main attraction.
“We started selling wings behind the club, and eventually turned it into a business because people would come just for the wings.” the owner said.
Night after night, customers weren’t just showing up to dance. They were coming specifically for the wings. Word spread, demand group, and what started as a crowd inside a club soon transformed into a standalone business.
Today, Empire wings have expanded far beyond its original concept. With a restaurant located near lsu’s campus, multiple locations, and food trucks serving communities across Louisiana, the brand continues to grow. From Baton Rouge to game days near Tiger Stadium, support from LSU students, faculty, coaches and athletes has played a major role in its success.
For the owner, the journey represents more than business growth. It reflects Black entrepreneurship, community support, and the power of turning passion into lasting impact.
