LSU men’s basketball’s point guard Dedan Thomas Jr. is set to have season-ending surgery.
Thomas led LSU in points scored before he suffered a lower leg injury as the Tigers entered SEC play. He missed the first five SEC games and returned for three games. He was able to score 18 points versus Arkansas, but he reaggravated the injury before the contest versus Mississippi State.
“Since arriving on campus and earning his captain’s role, DJ has been a great teammate and a relentless competitor,” head coach Matt McMahon said. “He makes everyone in our program better. I admire the toughness and fight DJ has shown since suffering his foot injury. He has done everything in his power to work through the pain and get back on the court.”
Thomas will undergo surgery on his left foot next week, taking the star scorer out of action for the rest of LSU’s season.
“I’m disappointed for DJ that his season has come to an end,” McMahon said. “We look forward to supporting him through his recovery.”
LSU is 2-9 in conference play with the postseason right around the corner.
