As the Mardi Gras break comes to an end, one thing that hasn’t taken any days off is LSU Sports, here is a recap of everything you need to know about Tigers Sports after the break.
Looking first at the diamond, more in particular Alex Box, and the national champions have had a solid start out the gates. The Tigers currently hold a 5-0 record, outscoring their last three opponents 63-23, with three of the five wins by way of mercy rule.
The Tigers hope to keep the success going as they’ll travel to Jacksonville for the Jax College Baseball Classic against Indiana, Notre Dame, and UCF.
From Alex Box to Tiger Park, and it’s been a mixed bag of results for Head Coach Beth Torina’s team. LSU softball competed in the Clearwater Invitational and were only able to see success against Oklahoma State while suffering losses to #11 Nebraska, #22 Duke, and #6 UCLA.
Although the Tigers were able to pick up a mid-week victory over South Alabama, there’s still some concern heading into the purple and gold classic. Torina spoke to the media ahead of the weekend’s games on the team’s performance so far.
“We don’t have it figured out. We’re trying to grow and face some adversity here early and learn through it, and hopefully we’ll be better suited to tackle adversity as it comes later in the season.”
Moving from outdoor to the indoor, more in particular the hardwood, Kim Mulkey’s team will look to provide a response following a valentine’s day loss to South Carolina.
The Tigers have traveled up to Oxford for a contest with the #17 ranked Ole Miss Rebels tonight, and return back to Baton Rouge with a matchup against Missouri on Sunday.
For the men’s team, Matt McMahon and the Tigers hope to break a five-game losing streak against #25 Alabama this Saturday, despite the loss of DJ Thomas Jr.
LSU Gymnastics have themselves a rematch of the Collegiate Quad as the Tigers head up to Norman to take on Oklahoma following their last conference victory over Auburn 198.325-196.825.
Last but not least, LSU soccer sees three Tigers all getting the call-up to their respective national teams. Ida Hermanssdottir has been called up for Iceland ahead of the 2027 World Cup qualifiers against Spain and England. Sydney Cheesman has been called up for the U.S. under-23 team, and Sariyah Bailey has been called up for the U.S. under-19 national team.
Bailey’s call-up marks the first time that an active LSU soccer player has been called up to play with the national team.
