LSU Men’s Basketball hosted the Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday night at the PMAC. LSU is coming off of a double overtime win against Ole Miss and wants to keep the momentum to finish the season strong. Oklahoma was also coming off of a very strong win against Auburn and wanted to keep their momentum.
The game tipped off and it was very physical to start. There were a total of 18 team fouls in the first half and this helped Oklahoma build a lead early on. The Sooners had 13 free throws in the 1st half, exposing the Tigers undisciplined defense.
The Tigers struggled on the offensive end throughout the game. Their leading scorer, Max Mackinnon had 17 points but shot 6-20 from the field. Jalen Reece also didn’t have a strong performance, as he had 2 points shooting 1-10 from the field and 0-4 from the three.
While LSU’s guards were struggling, Oklahoma’s were dominating. Nijel Pack led Oklahoma in scoring with 21 points which included 11 in the second half. He wasn’t the only one, as Xzayvier Brown also contributed with 20 points.
The Sooners had an eight-point lead going into halftime, but the Sooners started to pull away.
LSU shot 36.4 percent from the field and Oklahoma took advantage of the glass with 11 rebounds and 13 second-chance points. As the game went on, the Tigers looked defeated and unmotivated, as this was not the same team we witnessed in Oxford.
With the poor shooting and poor rebounding, the Tigers ended up losing to the Sooners 83-67, resulting in their 4th straight home loss this season.
