On Sunday afternoon, LSU Gymnastics competed with Alabama, Arizona and North Carolina at the Gold and Purple Podium Challenge at the Raising Cane’s River Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
The Tigers went on to win with a final score of 198.200.
While this was the first time this season she didn’t compete all-around, Kailin Chio continues to dominate college gymnastics, earning her fourth perfect 10 in a row this season on beam.
Chio has recorded a total of 7 perfect 10’s this season on vault, beam and floor for the Tigers.
Chio wasn’t the only Tiger with an impressive performance on beam, Junior Amari Drayton scored her fourth 9.925 this season and Junior Konnor Mclain earned her second 9.925.
No.3 Alabama also put on an impressive performance, landing themselves in second place with a final score of 197.650. This was Alabama’s second time meeting LSU in 48 hours and the Crimson Tide reached their second highest floor score this season in the third rotation with the help of Senior anchor Gabby Gladieux, who earned herself a 9.95.
North Carolina and Arizona had a harder time catching up to Alabama and LSU, ending the meet in third and fourth place. However, Arizona senior Jessa Janicke tied her season high on beam with a score of 9.8.
The Tigers went onto win 3 individual events, with Kailin Chio winning floor with her perfect 10, Kylie Coen taking the crown on beam, with a career-high of 9.975, and Amari Drayton taking vault with a 9.950.
No.3 Alabama won the other two, with Gabby Gladieux winning all-around with a 39.575 and Azaraya Ra-Akbar winning uneven bars with a score of 9.975.
The Tigers will face Florida on Sunday, March 8 at 5 PM and Arkansas on Friday, March 13 at 7:30 PM, in hopes of securing their last two conference wins before heading to the SEC Championships in Tulsa.
