With the MLB season just 24 days away, there is just one thing left until Baseball is on the television daily, the World Baseball Classic.
In this rendition of the WBC, three former LSU Tigers are participating in the tournament. Two of whom will be representing the stars and stripes for team USA.
Two-time world series champion, with the Astros and newest member of the Chicago Cubs, Alex Bregman along with unanimous National League Cy Young Award winner Paul Skenes join arguably the most talented team in the tournament. Let’s look at some of the American stars playing in the WBC.
Skenes will co-headline the rotation with back-to-back American League Cy Young Award winner Tarik Skubal. This one-two punch is by far the nastiest in the tournament.
Bregman will join all-stars Bobby Witt Jr., Gunnar Henderson, Cal Raleigh and Bryce Harper in the infield, while the reigning MVP Aaron Judge captains the outfield. There is one more former Bayou Bengal playing in the tournament and that is Aaron Nola.
Nola will be representing team Italy throughout the month as he will headline the Italians starting rotation. The former Collegiate Pitcher of the year with LSU was drafted number 7 overall to the Phillies in 2014.
As we look into the tournament itself, the US, Dominican Republic, Japan and Venezuela are all favorites to win as Bregman, Juan Soto, Ronald Acuna Jr. and Shohei Ohtani look to capture the gold.
However, don’t be surprised if you see team Italy, Mexico or Puerto Rico make a deep run with the likes of Anthony Rizzo, Randy Arozarena and Edwin Diaz looking to pull off the upset.
If you are a fan of baseball, this tournament is one you simply cannot miss.
