LSU Men’s Basketball lost a triple overtime thriller on Saturday against Texas A&M, 94-91. The game was an emotional roller coaster ride that had both teams going back and forth trying to secure a last victory before the SEC Tournament. Head Coach Matt McMahon was proud of his team’s effort in Saturday’s performance.
“I was really proud of the fight and the competitive spirit of our players, and I thought they laid it on the line for what ended up being 55 minutes.” McMahon said.
It was senior day for the Tigers, as 6 players including star players Max Mackinnon and Pablo Tamba played their last game in the PMAC. Coach McMahon expresses his disappointment about not being able to give his seniors a happy ending, in their PMAC finale.
“I hate that we couldn’t pay it off with a win for our seniors here on Senior day. I was thankful for the fans who came out; I thought they were really into the game.” McMahon said.
LSU finished with a disastrous 3-15 record in conference play this season. These results have raised a lot of questions for the future and have placed McMahon on the hot seat. McMahon gives his reasoning on why he should stay the Head Coach for the LSU Tigers.
“I understand what comes with the job from an expectation standpoint. I share the disappointment and frustration. We haven’t gotten the results that we wanted in the last two months, that’s my responsibility. I absolutely love LSU, I love our core group that returns next year.We have a great leadership team so all respect whatever decision they decide to make, but I love the opportunity.” McMahon said.
With the SEC Tournament coming, McMahon wants to look ahead and get his team ready for Nashville.
“I think it’s critical to keep a focus on preparing our players and our team for the opportunity next week in Nashville.” McMahon said.
The Tigers will face Kentucky in the first round of the tournament on Wednesday.
