LSU Gymnasts Nina Ballou and Konnor McClain speak to the media ahead of the SEC Championship in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Freshman Ballou has been on the floor since the start of the season and has consistently gotten better as time has gone. Going against Arkansas Friday, she scored a 9.9 in the second spot.
Head Coach Jay Clark has always considered Ballou as an energizer bunny on Floor. While she agrees with what Clark says, she says it’s only going to get even bigger going into the post-season.
“I guess I kind of agree with it,” Ballous said. “I always try to be as authentic as possible when performing and I do think my energy in and out of the gym is always pretty intense. I feel like it’s only going to intensify and get even more hype going into the post-season.”
Although going into the post-season is new for Ballou, it’s nothing new for junior McClain as this is her third time competing at the SEC Championship. Coming off of 9.950 on bars and 9.925 on beam against Arkansas, approaching the post-season is trying to keep a clear mind and compete consistently.
“Keeping the same mindset is so important leading into the post-season,” McClain said. “Nothing changes for us. Just one day at a time and one meet at the time is all that matters, so right now, we’re focusing on SEC and then we’ll think about the other meets going forward.”
“But just really keeping that same mindset and just trying to better ourselves and 1% better everyday. We focus on that a lot and I think keeping that same focus is really important.”
LSU Gymnastics will take on No.1 Oklahoma, No. 3 Florida and No. 4 Alabama in the evening session Saturday, March 21 at 7 p.m.
