On LSU’s campus, repping the purple and gold is nothing new. Whether it’s a hoodie or a jersey, students, alumni, and fans will always showcase their pride, but two business owners are showing that pride can be a little different.
Legacy Jackets is a co-founded company founded in 2024. Jye Turk is the CEO while Devin McCoy is the Creative Director. What began as an idea for Turk and McCoy quickly turned into a creative and unique business.
They have combined their vision to build a company to “elevate pride into something worthy of a runway, without losing its soul.”
“I wanted something that I felt represented the passion and luxury of the experience I had at LSU,” Turk said. “Devin was a childhood friend already designing clothes, so we just played with the idea of making the product and it just ran from there.”
In a place that’s filled with the traditional school swag, Turk and McCoy wanted to create something that’s storytelling and building a Legacy. Each jacket features detailed patches and custom designs that blend with LSU tradition.
There is the letter “L” at the front of the jacket to represent LSU, there’s half of Tiger located in a front pocket while the other half is on the sleeve, there’s the Dalrymple Exit patch on the jacket and the state of Louisiana on the arm sleeve.
While the process hasn’t been an easy path, they were able to create a jacket that they’re proud of and that makes them stand out.
“It kind of just came to me,” McCoy said. “What if I put the hand on the pocket and it’ll be like a whole image? I’ve never seen this before, so it’s an original concept. Whenever people see my stuff, I want them to be like ‘wait, what is that.’”
They started gaining even more traction after LSU Women’s Basketball Head Coach Kim Mulkey was sent a jacket and started wearing it around campus. With this visibility, the brand noticed an increase in sales, but Turk and McCoy says the biggest win was seeing their design being worn and supported by Mulkey
“It felt like my first Christmas,” Turk said. “A lot like your first Christmas when you’re a kid. Just a bunch of disbelief and I know I took every step to get there, but even then, I understand one plus one can equal three sometimes.”
The brand doesn’t just stop at LSU. Legacy Jackets also offer designs for Southern and Tulane, expanding its reach across colleges in Louisiana.
As fashion and school spirit continue to overlap, Legacy jackets plan to collaborate with different people and more colleges to get their brand out there and build their own identity.
