LSU Baseball lost 10-4 against the No. 9 Texas A&M Aggies in the opener of a three-game series.
Tiger ace Casan Evans matched up with Aggie starter Shane Sdao for a star-studded pitching duel that lived up to the hype for the first three innings. Evans racked up six strikeouts through the first three innings while Sdao had hitters off-balance all game.
Lightning struck first for A&M as Caden Sorrell drove in the first run with his groundout. After Evans got out of the jam with only allowing that one run, Switching-hitting shortstop Steven Milam smoked his fifth homer of the season to tie the game at one.
That very next inning, three aggies crossed home thanks two rbi singles from Chris Hacopian and Jake Duer. LSU responded with a run in the bottom of the inning but couldn’t do more as Sdao kept the damage limited.
In the sixth inning, things broke for LSU as Jorian Wilson hit his first of two home runs, knocking Evans out of the game. Jay Johnson turned to Grant Fontenot, who got two outs before Gavin Grahovac launched a bomb out to center.
The score would stay at 7-2 until the eighth inning when a wild pitch scored another Aggie. LSU responded with two runs cutting the lead in half before the ninth inning put a seal on the game.
A leadoff double from Terrence Kier II set up Wilson for the gut-wrenching blow. He hit his second homer of the day, blasting this one to left field.
With the score now at 10-4, LSU needed another miraculous comeback to secure momentum in the series. The Tigers went down 1-2-3, ending the game in rough fashion.
The loss drops the Tigers overall record to 23-16 while being 6-10 in SEC play. LSU hosts Texas A&M for the second game of the three-game series on Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
