LSU Gymnastics is taking home a second-place trophy after falling short to Oklahoma at the NCAA National Championship by less than 10th of a point.
With the Tigers giving multiple powerhouse performances, they started strong. Nina Ballou gave a strong performance with a 9.87, bringing her personality to the floor. As well as Amari Drayton giving us a packed routine with a 9.87. Kaliya Lincoln wrapped up LSU on floor with a score of 9.93.
As the Tigers moved to vault, they were in the lead. Kailin Chio gave yet another perfect 10 on vault, giving the team momentum. Konnor McClain stuck the landing with her 9.88, and Drayton with her 9.87 score. The Tigers were on fire going into bars.
LSU struggled in their bar rotation for the semi-finals. The same can’t be said about the National Championship. With solid landings from Courtney Blackson, Konnor McClain, and Kailin Chio, the Tigers were leading.
Ending with beam, Amari Drayton stuck a solid landing, and Kailin Chio wrapped things up with her 9.9 score. The Tigers ended with a total score of 198.0750.
The Tigers are the runner-up champions, and though not the ending they wanted, history was made.
Kailin Chio gave the program its first perfect score on vault at the NCAA Gymnastics Championship.
