LSU Softball wins three in a row to complete the weekend series sweep against the Ole Miss Rebels 8-5.
The final game of the series was an offensive showing from both teams. The game featured a total of six home runs.
The Rebels earned one of their home runs in the 1st inning of the contest. Freshman infielder Madi George hit a ball deep into the right field to bring herself and another to go up early.
Though their first at bat didn’t amount to much, the Tigers quickly answered with their next opportunity at the plate in the 2nd inning.
Jalia Lassiter continues to be stellar at bat, earning a double that brought in two other Tigers to tie up the game. Later in the inning, she scored a run along with junior utility Sierra Daniel, capitalizing on a Rebel error.
A scoreless 3rd inning was quickly overshadowed in the 4th as Ole Miss rattled off three home runs. George earned her 2nd home run of the contest, along with upperclassmen Cassie Reasner and Kennedy Bunker, to give the Rebels a 5-4 lead.
However, from there, the rest of the game was all LSU.
Tori Edwards continues to be one of the best hitters in the country. Her two home runs in the 5th and 6th innings, respectively, were the redshirt sophomore’s 10th and 11th on the year.
Alix Franklin added to the Tigers’ scoring before Edwards’ final home run, where her triple was capped off by an Ole Miss error to bring herself and Lassiter home in the 6th.
The Tigers did not get another opportunity at bat as the game came to a close in the top of the 7th inning.
Pitcher Paytn Monticelli unintentionally served as the closer in games one and two of the series and did the same to wrap up the weekend.
Her two strikeouts and one hit allowed helped guide the Tigers to the finish line. This win moves LSU to 32-14 on the season with a 9-9 conference record.
Beth Torina and the Tigers are in action again Friday, when they travel to Starkville to face off against the other Mississippi school, the Mississippi State Bulldogs.
