United States Treasurer and LSU alum Brandon Beach sits down with News Director Audrey Foster to talk about the importance of fostering connections in college that can help set students up for their future careers.
With many students concerned with studying for finals and maintaining good grades, this interview focuses on the significance of building professional connections during college. Beach shares ways students can get involved in organizations related to their career interests.
Interviewer (Audrey): “[Students] are all focused on getting good grades, making good grades but it’s really about socially what you do in college as well. College is the time where you’re going to meet the most people you’ll ever meet in your life, I mean you have to take advantage of that. What kind of organizations were you involved in at LSU?”
Brandon Beach: “I was a Sigma Nu at LSU and I enjoyed my time in the fraternity. So really just involved in that and involved with my friends.”
Interviewer (Audrey): “What would you like to say to young Americans about the importance of being an active member of society and how the economy can affect their lives as well?”
Brandon Beach: “I will say this- When you leave LSU and you go and get into a career, get involved in that community. If you want your community to be great, you need to be involved. You don’t have to be an elected official to be involved, there are ways to volunteer and to make that community better.”
Clubs, Greek life, athletics, on-campus jobs, and student government are all great avenues for finding the community that will not only help you form long lasting friendships, but provide resources to help you achieve your career goals.
