LSU Chancellor James Dalton announced on Wednesday that LSU’s flagship research campuses have reached a new milestone, surpassing $600 million in annual research activity.
In total, LSU reached $601 million in fiscal year 2024-2025, breaking a record of research growth for the fifth year in a row and marking an 11% growth from $543 million the previous fiscal year.
“This is not a one-time jump. It is a trajectory,” said Dalton. “We are building exceptional momentum across every single flagship campus.”
This research activity across the university’s flagship campuses — LSU A&M, LSU AgCenter, LSU Health New Orleans, LSU Health Shreveport and Pennington Biomedical Research Center — has advanced work in cancer treatments, precision medicine, energy, cybersecurity, agriculture, and coastal and environmental sustainability.
According to a press release from the Office of the Chancellor, this $601 million in annual research activity “translates into an estimated $1.65 billion in statewide economic impact” by supporting high-wage jobs, promoting industry partnerships and increasing both job opportunities and federal investment within Louisiana.
This achievement is reflective of LSU’s larger initiative to become a top research university by pushing more research opportunities on campus, providing faculty and staff with the necessary resources and fostering a culture where research is applauded.
“We are incredibly proud of our Flagship faculty’s commitment to excellence, but we aren’t slowing down,” said Chancellor Dalton. “This type of sustained success is exactly how we will reach our goal of being among the top 50 research universities in the nation.”
