“American Horror Story: Freak Show” brings its Halloween episodes’ to a conclusion with plenty of shockers.
Edward Mordrake returns to satisfy his quest to find a freak to kill.
He first goes to Legless Suzi to hear her story about how doctors had to take her legs because of a spinal condition at two years old. She was then abandoned by her parents and ended up on the streets. Mordrake also goes to Paul the Illustrated Seal, who tells him about his tattoos. He says he tattooed everything but his face because he has a handsome face and it could be on a regular man, not just a freak.
Mordrake then goes to Elsa Mars, thinking she will be the one to take to the other side. Mars doesn’t know who Mordrake is and is confusing him for being the scout Maggie Esmeralda previously told her about. Mars then attempts to hire him to join the freaks. Mordrake quickly turns and demands a story out of Mars, knowing she is a freak as well.
Mars tells the story about how when she lived in Germany, she worked in the sex industry. She was not a prostitute, but a dominatrix. She would also allow people called “watchers” to pay and see her performance with whatever man that paid to be involved. Later, she is seen involved with a group of men preparing to create a film. However, Mars ends up drugged and the men cut off her legs with a chainsaw, causing her to become how the viewers know her now. Mordrake ask how she didn’t die and Mars says she was saved by a soldier.
Esmeralda and Jimmy Darling are off in another part of Jupiter trying to get back to the freak show after curfew. While headed home, the two stop because Darling thinks he sees cops. Instead, Twisty the clown appears and is chasing after the young girl he had trapped. Twisty traps the girl and carries her back. Darling and Esmeralda follow the two to attempt to rescue her.
However, Darling and Esmeralda end up trapped as well, forced to watch Dandy Mott and Twisty’s performance of sawing the captured girl in half. She escapes and chaos occurs in the woods.
Mordrake arrives to hear Twisty’s story.
Twisty tells the story of how he used to be a regular clown in a freak show, but hated the freaks because they mocked him. The freaks start a rumor he touches the children he performs for and the rumor spreads like wildfire. Twisty is forced to come home to Jupiter, but continues to stay dressed as a clown. He then starts a new job of creating homemade toys. He attempts to sell his toys to a local toy store, but terrifies the children and adults. The toy store owner accuses Twisty of touching children, making Twisty furious.
Twisty becomes depressed and attempts to shoot himself. However, makes a mistake and instead of committing suicide, breaks his mouth causing what can be seen under his mask.
He attempts to go back to working at a freak show, but when he thinks the freaks are getting more attention, he becomes murderous. Mordrake thinks Twisty has no shame for what he’s done and decides he is the one to bring to the underworld. Twisty is killed.
With Twisty dead, Mott takes his mask and becomes full of crazy, killing his maid when he arrives home.
When the cops come to question Darling and Esmeralda about who kidnapped them and the dead clown, Darling is looked at as a hero for saving the children who Twisty had trapped. The town celebrates Darling and accepts the freaks— flaws and all.
