August 27th marks one year since a car accident took the life of LSU student Christopher Broussard. In the face of such a tragedy, his family decided to create a positive impact on the life of another student through a scholarship created in his honor.
Lisa Broussard, Christopher’s mother, came up with a plan to create a lasting legacy for her son on campus.
“Immediately, the first thing I though of is, I wanna do something to honor him,” Mrs. Broussard said. “To show how, you know, he was such a big person of giving back to the community and helping others and just, you know, wanting to make a difference.”
Apart from the scholarship, Christopher left his mark on campus through the activities he was involved in. Matthew Darouse, Christopher’s friend on campus, said that they spent all of three years establishing the Theta Chi fraternity at LSU.
“He kinda founded that legacy too, in addition to the scholarship that he’s bring onto campus,” Darouse noted. “He’s left his mark in that way also.”
The difference that Christopher made in the lives of so many people will never be forgotten. However, in order to create the scholarship, his friends and family need help.
Their first fundraiser took place at Raising Cane’s on Sept. 18, but you can donate to support the Christopher Broussard Scholarship by visiting the LSU Foundation website.
Christopher’s life is a reminder to never take anything for granted and to give back every chance you get.
