Business Insider Magazine ranks LSU, in Baton Rouge, as the ninth most dangerous college campus in the United States. Students have personally experienced break-ins on campus where personal items have been stolen and wonder if parking on campus is safe. Sophomore Lauren Mills says safety isn’t just an issue, but the parking on campus is a challenge most days.
“I feel safe driving on campus, its just parking is really limited.” Mills says.
According to Police Captain Corey Lalonde, not all robberies are forced.
“A lot of times those the thieves will come through checking door handles. We’ve caught people doing that before checking door handles and seeing what car doors are open and then taking what they can grab.” Lalonde says.
Lalonde says taking the time to hide valuables in the car including laptops, cell phones and tablets. He encourages all victims of break-ins to report the crime immediately even if nothing of value is stolen.
