LSU started the way it needed to.
South Carolina turned the ball over three times early in the first quarter, and the Tigers executed in transition and converted the takeaways to points.
Aneesah Morrow was a big part of LSU’s execution on offense. She found a way to get open for two 3-pointers. After two more scores from Morrow, she ended the first quarter with a team-high 10 points.
Morrow took advantage. She took advantage of Angel Reese having her hands full with South Carolina’s 6-foot-7 center, Kamilla Cardoso.
Reese kept Cardoso in check as well, as she was held to just one rebound and no points in the first quarter. Reese finished the quarter with three points along with four rebounds and three assists.
Mikaylah Williams finished the quarter with four points and two rebounds, and Hailey Van Lith scored five points in the first quarter, including a made 3-pointer.
Timely shooting from Williams and Van Lith gave LSU a six-point lead after the opening quarter. However, the Tigers led by double-digit points with under two-minutes left.
