LSU added its third prospect from the transfer portal, this time to its quarterback room.
The Tigers didn’t have to look very far, as all three of LSU’s transfer commitments come from Southeastern Conference schools, to add former Vanderbilt quarterback A.J. Swann.
Swann is a 6-foot-3, 228-pound quarterback from Cherokee High School in Canton, Georgia. He chose the Tigers over South Carolina and comes to LSU with two years of eligibility, plus the opportunity to redshirt.
He’s completed 222 of his 394 pass attempts for 2,731 passing yards and 22 touchdowns along with nine interceptions in his two seasons at Vanderbilt.
However, injuries have plagued Swann’s time at Vanderbilt, as he suffered a concussion in 2022 and an elbow contusion in 2023. He missed six games this past season partially due to the injury.
The quarterback room now has four scholarship quarterbacks including Swann. Garrett Nussmeier is the veteran returner set to make the start in the ReliaQuest Bowl, as Jayden Daniel has opted-out to prepare for the NFL Draft.
This being said, Nussmeier is expected to be the leading candidate for the starting job next season, but Swann’s experience may create a quarterback battle.
Rickie Collins is also set to return after his he redshirted for his true freshman season, and Colin Hurley is set to arrive as a true freshman as a part of the class of 2024.
