The episode opens with Mary Jane discussing her rant on Don Lemon’s show on CNN, after the video has gone viral. She holds her own and explains her point of view on the show, and when driving to work, her little brother Paul calls her. The two share a nice moment to laugh at the viral video, which has now been given the autotune remix treatment.
Continuing on her drive, she sees tons of fans with signs waiting in the lot. MJ is now a viral video star with plenty of women with signs supporting her. MJ’s co-worker Cynthia comes to tell her the network is trying to push her out in favor of having MJ take over. MJ tells her she’s being paranoid, but Cynthia knows deep down, MJ knows it’s the truth.
Sure enough, MJ and Kara are called into the network head’s office, and are told that Cynthia is fired after two weeks, and MJ should be her replacement. Kara and MJ accept the offer, and MJ stays behind to talk with the network head. She’s told she needs to tone down her “black agenda” and do more mainstream stories.
She goes back to Kara to talk about their situation. MJ tells Kara she wants to make money, but she also wants to make a difference in the world. Kara says this opportunity is too great to pass up and MJ shouldn’t be doubting it. MJ then tells Kara she’s lucky to be the one behind the camera because she doesn’t have to deal with this kind of pressure and having her face in front of everything.
Later that night, MJ goes to see Sheldon, as usual, and she talks to him about this new opportunity. She says she feels like she’s selling out, but then stops mid-sentence, realizing that Sheldon has his place all set up for a wining and dining sex party. He’s put on some slow music and cooked a fancy meal for her, complete with MJ’s favorite, lots and lots of wine. During dinner, MJ tells Sheldon she thinks the way he’s coming on to her is super corny and she’s not here for it. The rest of the night is an awkward mess and she goes home.
She talks to her friend Mark about this, and Mark defends Sheldon. Mark goes on some tangent about how women’s words “have the power to lift a man up or crush his spirit.” MJ says it wasn’t that big of a deal, but Mark thinks otherwise, telling her she needs to go make it right after embarrassing Sheldon.
Kara goes home to visit her parents, and it turns out her dad is a stubborn, grumpy old man. Her mother asked Kara to come to help try to convince him not to sell the house. Kara’s sister comes over and the two start fighting, and end up having to hash out their drama.
Kara and her dad have a heart to heart, and he tells her he’s already sold the house, but can’t bring himself to tell her mother.
Back at the network, MJ and Cynthia are both in the bathroom, and Cynthia tells MJ she knows she’s fired and storms out. Later, she gets a passive aggressive text from Sheldon so she decides to go see him.
She shows up at his doorstep and apologizes to him, and the episode ends with him telling her he’ll call her tomorrow.
