Episode nine begins with another one of Ryan’s crazy dreams. He and Gwen are sound asleep when Joe walks into their bedroom. He hands Ryan a knife and teaches him how to kill, but Ryan wakes up before anything happens. He and Gwen are still attempting to cope with his stressful job and the threats against Gwen.
He won’t let Gwen go anywhere by herself, so while he’s driving her to work, the cops pull him over and draw their guns. Ryan’s car was registered as stolen, and he was labeled as armed and dangerous in the officer’s computer, which is all thanks to Theo’s handiwork.
Ryan’s also subject to fraud and a car crash where he receives a phone call from Theo, who’s watching his every move from a camera system. He continues to threaten those Ryan cares about most, much like Joe.
Meanwhile, Theo breaks into the office of Strauss’ paralegal and after extensive searching, leaves with a book filled with a series of numbers. Another one of Theo’s countless identities is also revealed — Mr. Salman.
Max’s boyfriend Tom is still keeping tabs on her apartment through the camera system, but soon after, the FBI finally discovers there’s a missing laptop.
Theo arrives at a shooting range and makes contact with a former military man who was humiliated during his time serving, which caused him to lose contact with his family. Theo befriends him and offers him a way to take back his manhood. They visit the enemy’s home, and Theo teaches his new friend how to kill.
In Atlantic City, Daisy’s found herself a job as a waitress at a gentlemen’s club. She visits a customer’s beach house, but when he becomes too aggressive, she stabs him. As she turns around, Mark is watching her and claims he’s actually Luke. Mark wants to kill her, but Daisy offers up Mike’s whereabouts in an effort to save her life.
Joe’s learning about all of his pre-death options regarding therapy when he sees a picture of Theo in the newspaper, and remembers encountering him during a class he was teaching. He requests someone tell Ryan that he has information for him.
Soon after, Theo sends his friend into the prison to send a message to Joe. Theo needs help deciphering Strauss’ code book, but Joe won’t participate unless he gets something in return. Theo offers Joe infamy and says he’ll help him killing from beyond the grave. Joe’s interested until Theo tries to take on Ryan as his own. An angry Joe strangles Theo’s messenger, letting Theo know he’s not quite finished yet.
Back at the bureau, Max and Mike are close to tracking down the laptop when Tom overhears what they’re doing. In a panic, Tom destroys the laptop and the signal disappears, leading Mike and Max to believe there might be a mole in their presence.
Ryan visits Joe, but their discussion doesn’t end well when Joe brings up Gwen. He learned of her from Theo’s messenger before he killed him. After Ryan leaves, Joe cuddles up in his bed twisting and turning a pair of sunglasses he stole from Theo’s messenger until it becomes what appears to be lock-picking device.
Ryan returns home upset and goes for a drink, but goes to apologize to Gwen when he hears her in the other room. As he’s apologizing profusely, Gwen’s still struggling with their stressful relationship, all the while staring at the positive pregnancy test in her hand.
