LSU sophomore forward Jordan Mickey was left off the John R. Wooden Award Top 20 list Wednesday, but he was soon given another chance for a personal accolade at season’s end.
Mickey was named to the Midseason 30 Watch List for the men’s basketball Naismith Trophy Award, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced Thursday.
Mickey leads LSU and the Southeastern Conference in blocks per game with 3.7 rejections a night. Mickey is also the SEC’s third-leading scorer (17.0 ppg) and second-leading rebounder (10.8 rpg).
In the Tigers’ 71-69 loss to No. 1 Kentucky on Tuesday, the Dallas native tallied 16 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the field. He also grabbed seven boards and stuffed four shots.
Mickey is one of two players in the SEC averaging a double-double, and he’s secured 14 this season. Mickey has delivered five double-doubles in the last seven games. He’s averaging 20.1 points and 11.7 rebounds per game during that span.
Mickey and the Tigers (17-7, 6-5 SEC) return to action against Tennessee (14-9, 6-5 SEC) at 3 p.m. Saturday in Thompson-Boling Arena.
