The LSU men’s basketball team rebounded from a 13-point second-half deficit but couldn’t prevail against No. 1 Kentucky, falling 71-69Tuesday night in the PMAC.
Trailing 58-45 with 12:46 to go, the Tigers (17-7, 6-5 Southeastern Conference) went on a 21-2 run over the next five-plus minutes to take their first lead since the end of the first half.
But the Wildcats responded, outscoring LSU 11-3 over the last seven minutes of regulation to maintain their unblemished record.
Sophomore forward Jarell Martin led LSU with 21 points on 8-of-11 shooting from the field. The Tigers also got 17 points from junior guard Keith Hornsby and 16 from sophomore forward Jordan Mickey. But Hornsby missed a potential game-winning 3-pointer near the end of regulation.
Kentucky junior forward Willie Cauley-Stein led the visitors with 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Freshman guard Devin Booker chipped in 14 points off the bench.
