BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Alabama senior defensive back Rashad Johnson and freshman wide receiver Julio Jones were each named Southeastern Conference players of the week Monday for their performances in Saturday’s 27-21 overtime win at LSU.
Johnson, the defensive player of the week, recorded 4 tackles, 3 interceptions and 1 tackle for a loss.
Jones is the freshman of the week for catching a season-high 7 passes for 128 yards.
Florida junior quarterback Tim Tebow was the top offensive player. He completed 12-of-17 passes for 171 yards and 3 TDs. He also rushed for a game-high 88 yards in the Gators 42-14 win at Vanderbilt.
Auburn senior Tristan Davis won special team honors for returning the game’s opening kickoff 95 yards to help the Tigers beat Tennessee-Martin 37-20.
Georgia center Ben Jones was named offensive lineman of the week. South Carolina’s Jordin Lindsey captured defensive lineman honors.
