The Auburn Tigers fired offensive coordinator Tony Franklin Wednesday, according to an Associated Press article.
The change comes just six games into the 2008 season.
Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville hired Franklin from Troy after the 2007 regular season with the intent of installing a spread offense.
Halfway through his first season, Franklin’s system has not lived up to the expectations it set after the Tigers’ 23-20 Chick-fil-A Bowl win against Clemson. In that win, Auburn totaled 423 yards of total offense.
The Tigers are ranked 103rd nationally in scoring and passing offense and 104th nationally in total offense since then.
“Tuberville said Wednesday he’s not satisfied with progress being made on offense and felt it was best to make a change,” the AP article said. “He said he will take a larger role in working with the offense the rest of the season.”
