JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) — Fired LSU coach John Brady, now leading the Arkansas State program, told reporters Thursday it was difficult for players to compare coaching staffs after changes at the top.The Tigers fired Brady after LSU started 8-13 last season. Embattled Arkansas State coach Dickey Nutt left the program here after compiling a 189-187 mark in 13 seasons. In all but one game last year, the 10,038-seat Convocation Center was more than half-empty.At Arkansas State’s media day, reporters asked returning Red Wolves players to compare practices under Brady and Nutt. None made a direct comparison but said those under Brady are grueling.”Those questions are difficult for young people. I’ve been down that road and it may be happening to me in Baton Rouge right now,” said Brady, who never mentioned Nutt by name. “Anything that we are doing as a coaching staff is no reflection on anybody.”I’m not going to say ‘last year, this year.’ That has no bearing. I respect the people that have come before me and the job they tried to do. I don’t want to put these players on the spot and have anything misconstrued about what they’re saying.”I don’t think it’s fair to the players and its certainly not fair to the people that were here before me,” he said.Brady took LSU to the Final Four in 2006 but his team faltered in 2007 and 2008. After winning only one of the Tigers’ first seven Southeastern Conference games last year, LSU fired Brady and hired Trent Johnson after he took Stanford to the Sweet 16.”I know in Baton Rouge they’re asking players what’s different between that guy and Brady, and they’re all loving the new guy,” Brady said. “I can grant you that. That’s just the way it is in this business.”——Contact The Daily Reveille news staff at [email protected]
