Hurricane Gustav took Baton Rouge by storm Monday as its eastern eyewall skirted the Baton Rouge area and dropped about six inches of rain on the city.Gustav’s path correlated with its strength, said Dave Nussbaum, WBRZ meteorologist. The hurricane made landfall in Cocodrie, La. at 9:30 a.m., continued northwest and shifted north-northwest in an unexpected turn. Nussbaum said the hurricane was projected to take a more westerly path.As of 9 a.m. Tuesday, the center of the storm was near Shreveport. Nussbaum said Baton Rouge residents can expect more rain until Friday because of the hurricane’s wraparound rainbands. He said the storm will continue to weaken but will sustain tropical storm gusts of about 40 mph.A tornado watch is in effect for eastern Louisiana and parts of Mississippi until 4 p.m. today.—-Contact Angelle Barbazon at [email protected]
